Mastering Video Storytelling with Insights from a Digital Nomad

Discover the Secrets to Engaging Audiences and Boosting Revenue through Video

Hello Producers,

If you’ve been reading or listening for a while, you might know what’s coming. Yes, my favourite field: podcasting. I was both excited and a bit nervous. But it wasn’t necessary, as our chat was a lot of fun! Besides being a talented content creator, especially as a videographer or even a filmmaker, he’s an established podcaster and traveller. I hope you enjoyed this one!

Jonny Rose is a passionate entrepreneur, videographer, and podcast host with a knack for storytelling through video. As the founder of The Story Club, Jonny helps businesses around the world elevate their online presence by creating compelling, story-driven video content. With over five years of experience as a Marketing Manager for Slater Menswear, Jonny discovered that authentic, narrative-focused videos consistently outperformed flashy brand promotions.

Jonny can guide you in building your confidence on camera and teach your teams how to create engaging video content that sparks conversation, builds relationships, and most importantly, drives revenue. If you prefer an experienced professional to plan, record, edit, and deliver the entire project from start to finish, Jonny is the person you need. Tune in to hear Jonny’s insights on nomadic living, running a business on the move, and leveraging video content to engage and grow your audience.

Lessons:

  • Laser-Focus for Big Wins

  • Wander and Wonder

  • Turn Every Experience into Gold

  • Leap into Opportunities

  • Master the Art of Storytelling

Lesson 1: Focus

One might expect that Jonny would have a strong online presence across various social media platforms. While he does have a strong online presence, he focuses on LinkedIn. As he mentioned, he plans to explore other platforms in the future, but right now he’s concentrating solely on LinkedIn, where he is doing exceptionally well. With quality content, a large following, and regular activity, he serves as a great example of mastering one platform, establishing yourself, and growing it. Rather than overstretching and risking burnout, it’s often more effective to focus on one area. Of course, this depends on individual circumstances, but this approach can work well too!

Lesson 2: Travel and Explore

An interesting insight that stuck with me was Jonny’s experience in Bali. He traveled the world and spent a few months in Southeast Asia as a true digital nomad. Relaxing by the pool, he wondered if that’s the life he’d want to live permanently. Beach, sun, and relaxation sound like a dream, right? However, as Jonny pointed out, it might not be for everyone. Imagine doing that for the rest of your life—just chilling. This connects to my favorite mantra that I always try to remember: enjoy the journey.

Lesson 3: Maximize Your Experience

Continuing from Jonny’s travel experiences, he also spent time studying in New York. Understandably, when you’re in such an exciting place, you might want to make the most of it with activities like drinking, partying, and shopping. However, Jonny took a different approach. He sought ways to maximize his experience by collaborating with other entrepreneurs and entering a competition. This initiative led to meaningful opportunities and outcomes. And how did they fare in the competition? That’s what we explore in the next lesson.

Lesson 4: Just Give It a Try

They won! What an achievement and experience! The prize was a book by Gary Vee. Jonny saw Gary’s email address at the end of the book and decided to reach out. Long story short, he ended up spending a day with Gary’s media team at his company. Although Gary Vee wasn’t as big at that time as he is today, the experience was still impactful. Imagine the effect of seeing, experiencing, and being part of such an opportunity. Clearly, this had a positive influence on Jonny and highlights the value of giving things a try.

Lesson 5: Use Storytelling

You might not have expected this, but storytelling is incredibly powerful when done well. As someone who studied film at university, I agree that storytelling is not as simple as it may seem, but it can be very effective. How can you leverage storytelling for your benefit? Whether it’s writing social media posts, recording videos to promote your brand, pitching ideas, or something else, studying this topic further could be very worthwhile. Just think about your favourite movie, speech, or tale. What is it, and why does it resonate with you?

It goes without saying that I encourage you to listen to and subscribe to Jonny’s podcast. If you need to elevate your online presence with the help of storytelling and video, Jonny is the guy!

One question for you: What would you do after an experience like Jonny’s, spending a day with Gary Vee’s team? Would it inspire you to pursue entrepreneurship like Jonny? Or would you see it merely as an “experience”? Or what would you do if you had such a chance? It’s something interesting to think about! Thanks for reading, and have a successful week!

Keep producing,
Tommen
